Belgium, Denmark, Japan, and Chile win in the women’s draw 9-16

In the other World Championship, which will award the valuable positions from ninth to sixteenth place, the show did not disappoint on this first day. Belgium defeated Egypt decisively without conceding a set, and Japan handed Chile a straight but hard-fought 2-0 loss (the third match was not played as per the rules in case of an agreement between the two teams if it was deemed irrelevant for qualification purposes). The matches between Germany and Uruguay, as well as between the United States and Denmark, were much more balanced.

In both cases, the German and American teams started strong, embracing the illusion of victory. Germany indeed secured the first point thanks to Denise Hoefer and Victoria Kurz; the United States with a surge from Dubins-Morga Alonso. However, there was a comeback and a turnaround by Uruguay over Germany in the third and decisive match — a very tight one — where F. Garcia-Sampaio triumphed over Ackerman-Hering with a score of 6-4, 7-5. The Danish team, on the other hand, rallied to win against the Americans thanks to the decisive point from Wiese-Alipieva, who defeated Rodriguez Sanchez-Ruiz Alvarez 6-3, 7-6.

For the winners, the semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow, which will determine the two finals: one for the 9th-10th places and the other for the 11th-12th places. For Germany, the United States, Chile, and Egypt, semifinals will be held for the positions 13-16.
