Not only Arturo, the number 1 in the FIP ranking and expected to make his debut tomorrow paired with Agustin Tapia against Enrique Goenaga and Arnau Ayats: also on the court today was Rodrigo, the younger brother of ‘Arturito’, to whom the organisation granted a wild card. Paired with Boris Castro, however, Coello jr lost in three sets (6-7 7-6 6-3) to Rafa Mendez and Javi Rico. But there are those in their hometown who won today and felt great emotion: in the women’s draw, in fact, Melania Merino and Esther Carnicero, both born in Valladolid, advanced thanks to a 6-7 6-4 6-2 victory over Noa Canovas and Jimena Velasco.
SCORES In day 1 of the 17th Premier Padel tournament of the season, Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (3) made a winning debut, beating wild cards Javier Valdes and Daniel Windahl 7-6 6-2 in the match that closed the schedule on the Centre court. Paquito Navarro and Pablo Cardona (5) also did well, but lost a set before eliminating 4-6 6-3 6-4 Andres Fernandez Lancha and Pablo Garcia Rodrigo. Double 6-1 for Momo Gonzalez and Edu Alonso over Jofre/Hernandez, while among the women, Virginia Riera and Carmen Goenaga gained access to the round of 16 with 6-4 6-0 to Perez/Martinez and qualifiers Marta Borrero and Martina Calvo, 6-4 to Sara Ruiz Soto and Carla Mesa. Tomorrow, in addition to Coello and Tapia, Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto (2) will make their debuts in the morning session (starting at 10 a.m. CET) against Javier Barahona and Teo Zapata. Finally, for Mike Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk (4) there are Italian qualifiers Flavio Abbate and Giulio Graziotti.
