Day 3: Here are the “top 8”, excitement rises for the quarterfinals
September 24, 2024The FIP World Padel Championships Asia-Africa Qualifiers have reached a crucial stage, with day 3 concluding the first phase of the tournament and determining the top eight teams in both the men’s and women’s categories. In an intense day of sport in Kuwait City, the standout result was Iran‘s men’s victory, winning the decisive match against Japan (2-1) for the top spot in Group C, after both teams had won their first two ties. In Group A, Egypt claimed leadership with a 2-1 victory over Kuwait, while Group B saw the United Arab Emirates take first place with a 3-0 win over Bahrain. Australia also finished their group with a perfect record, defeating Senegal 3-0. The eight qualified teams will return to the courts tomorrow for the quarterfinals, all scheduled for 3 p.m. local time.

WOMEN In the women’s tournament, the Group A duel wrapped up the third day of matches, with Japan coming out on top after a 3-0 win over Kuwait. Both teams still advance to the quarterfinals, while in Group B Oman celebrated a comeback victory over the United Arab Emirates (2-1), with both teams moving on to the second stage. Iran and Egypt also secured their places in the quarterfinals (with Egypt defeating Iran 2-1 today), while in Group D Australia took a 3-0 victory over Thailand, qualifying alongside the Philippines (2-1 over Senegal). As with the men’s tournament, the top 8 women’s teams will also return to the courts tomorrow at 3 p.m.
