September 11, 2024Courts full of stars at the Ahoy Rotterdam. 28 matches were played in day 2 of the main draw at the Rotterdam Premier Padel P1, on the debuts of the world’s best pairs. Three days after their success in Madrid, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1) defeated 6-1 7-5 qualifiers Toni Bueno and Antonio Luque (in the round of 16 they will challenge two other qualifiers, Javier Martinez and Guille Collado) and so did Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2) with a 6-4 7-6 win over another pair coming from the qualifiers, the one formed by Rama Valenzuela and Pol Hernandez Alvarez, protagonists in the CUPRA FIP Tour. On Thursday, the big match against the number 9 seed, Momo Gonzalez and Edu Alonso: it will be played on the centre court, last match of the afternoon session starting at 6 p.m. CET (morning session will start at 10 a.m.). On the other hand, Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (3) needed the third set to get the better of Rafa Mendez and Javi Rico, beaten 6-0 6-7 6-2. Also positive was the tournament debut of Mike Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk (4), with 6-0 6-2 to Josete Rico and Agustin Gutierrez. In the evening, a great comeback by Fernando Belasteguin and Juan Tello (7), ahead 6-7 7-6 6-1 to Jorge Ruiz and Miguel Semmler.
WOMEN In the women’s draw, victorious debut for world number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, whose 6-1 6-4 win over Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo secured them access to the round of 16, where they will find Agueda Perez and Patri Martinez Fortun. Like them, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (2), who, after their victory in Madrid, started again with a victory in two sets (6-1 6-1) over Carolina Navarro and Ariadna Cañellas, which means a very interesting round of 16 match against Martina Calvo and Andrea Ustero. The tournament of the number 4 seed Martita Ortega and Sofia Araujo also got off to a good start, with 6-2 6-4 wins over Sara Ruiz Soto and Carla Mesa: Thursday’s duel against Giorgia Marchetti and Lea Godallier.
