Day 1: Ustero shines also with Calvo. Bueno-Luque for Coello and Tapia

Just a few days ago, in Madrid, Andrea Ustero was forced to retire due to the injury of teammate Ale Alonso. Ale could not take the court in the Rotterdam Premier Padel P1, but Andrea chose another youngster, Martina Calvo. And the chemistry with the 2008-class player was immediately perfect, given also her past with the Spanish youth national team: Ustero and Calvo, in two hours, beat Barbara Las Heras and Marta Marrero 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the women’s draw. After the end of the qualifiers, the first matches of the main draw were played: Wednesday will see the debut of the world’s best pairs, from Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez against Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo (fourth and last match of the morning session on the centre court, with matches starting at 9.30 a.m. CET) to Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, coming from their triumph in Madrid and expected to make their debut against Carolina Navarro and Ariadna Cañellas, the second match of the afternoon session starting at 6 p.m. CET.

MEN But Wednesday will also be the day of the debut of the top seeds in the men’s draw. For Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who triumphed at the WiZink Center last Sunday, there are qualifiers Toni Bueno and Antonio Luque, victorious with a double 6-4 over José Solano Marmolejo and Ivan Ramirez. Among the day’s results, the victory of Italian Facundo Dominguez and Spaniard Emilio Sanchez Chamero stands out: in two sets (6-4 7-6), they eliminated José Diestro and Andres Fernandez Lancha, who had reached the quarter-finals in Madrid. Also ok were the Argentines Alex Chozas and Leo Augsburger, with 6-4 6-2 over the Dutch wild cards Meijer and Richters.
