Four of the top 20 players in the FIP ranking and winners of the last FIP European Padel Championships were on the court: Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero won the generational duel, defeating the number 6 seed Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno in two hours and 21 minutes, 6-3 1-6 6-4. Among the most awaited pairs in the women’s draw, waiting for tomorrow’s debut of Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (first match from 10 a.m. on the centre court against Bea Caldera and Lorena Rufo), Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3) doubled 6-0 in 38 minutes against wild cards Lorena Alonso and Maria Catalina Tenorio and Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez (2) won 6-2 6-1 against Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros. There were lots of marathons in the women’s draw: one of them involved number 8 seed Virginia Riera and Carmen Goenaga, who overcame Patricia Martinez Fortun and Agueda Perez after two hours and 38 minutes.
MEN In the men’s draw, two of the top four seeds made good debuts, awaiting the debut of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, scheduled for tomorrow not before 4 p.m. against Alex Chozas and Leo Augsburger, and that of Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (3), expected in the second match of the day on the centre court by Ignacio Piotto and Adrian Marques. Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, number 2 in the seeding, defeated David Gala and Tonet Sans 6-3 6-4, while Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas (4) gave up just one game to Federico Mouriño and Jorge Ruiz (6-1 6-0). Among the most expected pairs at the WiZink Center in Madrid were Pablo Cardona and Paquito Navarro (5), victorious 6-3 6-1 over brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus, who came from the qualifiers. The feat of the day, however, was that of Luis Hernandez and Inigo Jofre, who in the evening eliminated the number 6 seed Alex Ruiz and Javi Garrido with a score of 6-3 3-6 7-6.
