Coello and Tapia triumph in the men’s draw. Women, title to Triay-Fernandez

One year later, the kings of Madrid are still Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia. In the final of the Comunidad de Madrid Premier Padel P1, the FIP number 1 ranked players confirmed their title by beating Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan 6-3 7-6 in one hour and 31 minutes, winning the seventh trophy of their incredible season. A perfect match, that of Coello and Tapia, with Galan instead author of an excessive number of unforced errors that didn’t even allow the number 2 seeded pair to take the match to the third set. “We didn’t go on holiday to continue training in August”, confessed Tapia, with Coello confirming how the summer was spent more on the court than on the beach. “Agus is an animal, he had a brutal mini pre-season: he’s in incredible condition”.

The women’s tournament title was won by Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, the number 3 seed in the draw: the Spaniards took advantage of the withdrawal of Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez due to an injury after the score had seen Triay/Fernandez ahead 6-2 2-1. It was a sad ending for Bea, who was in tears after the number 5 ranked player had already been forced to stop due to physical problems earlier in the season. “It’s sad to end a final like this – said Triay –. Bea is having a lot of bad luck, but I’m sure she will come back much stronger. With Claudia, on the other hand, I take my hat off to her, she is playing impressively”. “I want to give strength to Bea, who is not having a good time –. Fernandez added –. Winning a tournament here, at home, for me is one of the most rewarding things I will ever do”. For Triay and Fernandez, it’s the third title of the season, the second in a P1 after the one in Santiago, to which they added the P2 in Bordeaux.

Not even time to close the P1 in Madrid, that the Premier Padel circuit moves to Rotterdam, for another P1: the great padel goes on.
