Finland Premier Padel P2, day 3. Libaak-Chozas, another new pair make the day’s feat
August 1, 2024The Finland Premier Padel P2 is the tournament of new pairs. Not only those formed by the Top 20 in the FIP ranking, but also those aiming to climb the rankings. This is the case of Tino Libaak and Alex Chozas, respectively number 51 and number 45 in the ranking: the two Argentinians, in the round of 16, overcame another recently formed pair, Javi Garrido and Alex Ruiz (5), with a double tiebreak, and in the quarters they will face Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (1), who overcame Lucas Campagnolo and Javi Leal in three sets (6-4 5-7 6-2). The march of Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas is also progressing, 6-3 7-5 to Teo Zapata and Javier Barahona: tomorrow, in the quarters, the duel with Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz (6), one of the few confirmed pairs. The other quarterfinals will be those between Momo Gonzalez and Edu Alonso (7) against qualifiers Luis Hernandez and Inigo Jofre – the week’s big surprise – and between Pablo Cardona and Paquito Navarro (the number 3 seed eliminated 6-2 6-4 Denis Perino and Miguel Lamperti) and number 8 Alex Arroyo and Sanyo Gutierrez, ahead thanks to a 6-3 7-6 win over Chipi Muñoz and Javi Garcia.
WOMEN In the women’s draw, however, all eight seeds will be on court for the quarter-finals of the Finland Premier Padel P2. Opening Friday’s schedule at 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. CET) will be top-ranked Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez who, after their 6-2 6-3 victories over Camila Fassio and Monica Gomez, will face Virginia Riera and Carmen Goenaga (8), coming from their 7-6 6-2 win over Arruabarrena/Polo. Good debuts also for the number 2 in the seeding, Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo, who after 6-2 6-3 to Giorgia Marchetti and Lea Godallier will face Marina Guinart and Nuria Rodriguez (8). On the Meijou court, starting at 11 a.m. local time (10 a.m. CET), Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen (3, 6-0 6-1 to Collombon/Bidahorria in the round of 16) will face Alejandra Alonso and Andrea Ustero (7, today 6-1 6-2 to Bellver/Borrero). The second match of the morning session on the centre court will be between Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (number 4 seed and who only conceded one game today to Bea Caldera and Lorena Rufo) against number 5 seeded Alejandra Salazar and Veronica Virseda, who beat Saiz/Lobo 7-5 6-1.
