Malaga Premier Padel P1, day 6, the finalist pairs. Coello-Tapia vs Chingotto-Galan and Sanchez-Josemaria vs Triay-Fernandez

The ninth chapter of the challenge between Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan. But also the seventh of the duel between Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez against Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez. It will be a Sunday not to be missed at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena for the finals of the Malaga Premier Padel P1, kicking off at 2 p.m. CET. Out of 13 tournaments on the Premier Padel circuit this season, it will be the eighth final between Coello/Tapia and Chingotto/Galan: they will start from 5-3 in the head to head for the ‘Chingalan’ (adding the semifinal in Sevilla) and 6-1 6-1 last Sunday in Genova, the second final in a row won by the number 2 seeded players. The first to reach the final today were the number 1s: Coello and Tapia, winners of five tournaments in the season (Doha, Acapulco, Puerto Cabello, Asuncion and Santiago), beat 6-4 7-5 Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron in one hour and 35 minutes. Another great performance by Paquito and Lebron was not enough to win a final before changing partners. Coello and Tapia will be looking for their sixth title in 2024, as will Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, the latter also winning a tournament (the one in Riyadh) with Juan Lebron. After dominating the first set against Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (also them at the last tournament as a pair) the number 2 seeded players had to suffer more, but still managed to bring the match home with a score of 6-2 6-4.

WOMEN The women’s FIP number 1 ranked Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez also had to bring out the best in them, but after two hours and 33 minutes of very balanced play, they defeated Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno, qualifying for the final of the Malaga Premier Padel P1, with the chance to return to lift a trophy, something that has already happened this season in Riyadh, Doha, Mar del Plata and Rome. Josemaria and Sanchez, after a great first set that had suggested a two-set tie, had to deal with the great reaction of the number 6 in the seeding, which took the match to the third set. Paula and Ari go into the final; Sainz, on the other hand, consoles himself with entry into the top 10 ranking from Monday. In the final, the number 1s will find Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, who didn’t take the court after Bea Gonzalez withdrew: six previous matches this season, with a 3-3 draw. The only final, however, was won by Sanchez and Josemaria, 6-3 6-1 in the Doha Major, Gemma and Claudia’s first tournament as a pair.
