Malaga Premier Padel P1, day 4. Triay-Fernandez, perfect run: double 6-0 in two matches
July 11, 2024Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, the number 3 seed in the Malaga Premier Padel P1, are getting serious: already winners of P1 in Santiago and P2 in Bordeaux, the two Spanish have yet to lose a game after two matches. After the 6-0 6-0 in the first round to Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo, here is the one to wild cards Alba Perez and Ana Varo Ramos, which is the key to reach the quarterfinals. Triay and Fernandez, in the quarters (starting at 2 p.m. on court number 2, 10 a.m. on the centre court) will face the number 8 seed, Virginia Riera and Carmen Goenaga. Seven of the eight P1 seeds in Andalucia made it through to the round of 16: the only pair who overturned the predictions were Aranzazu Osoro and Marta Marrero, who beat 6-3 6-1 Alejandra Salazar (Marrero’s former partner) and Veronica Virseda, number 7 in the seeding. Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez (2) also advanced, with a thrill, thanks to 6-0 6-7 6-4 in two hours and 39 minutes over Giorgia Marchetti and Lea Godallier. These are the quarterfinals: Josemaria/Sanchez (1)-Castelló-Jensen (5), Sainz-Lllaguno (6)-Ortega/Araujo (4), Triay-Fernandez (3)-Riera/Goenaga (8), Osoro/Marrero-Brea/Gonzalez (2).
MEN In the men’s draw, Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona (13) repeated their feat in Genova, reaching the quarterfinals again: Miguel Yanguas and Javi Garrido (5) lost, closing out the P1 in Malaga and their partnership by losing 6-3 6-7 7-6 at the end of a two-hour and 32-minute battle. There was also a great fight in the match between Fernando Belasteguin and Juan Tello (6) and the pair formed by Lucas Campagnolo and Javi Leal (12): the Argentinians got the better of it 6-7 6-4 7-5 in two hours and 49’. Convincing victories for the two dominant pairs on the circuit: 6-1 6-2 by Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1) to Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz (11), 6-1 6-1 by Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2) to Teo Zapata and Javier Barahona (15).
