Malaga Premier Padel P1, day 3: The last dance of the Superpibes and Navarro-Lebron gets off to a good start
July 10, 2024The Malaga Premier Padel P1 is the last tournament for four of the world’s best players: Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno, the number 3 seed on the draw, as well as Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron (4), so they want to try to enjoy the week in the best possible way. And the only way to do that is to win and try to go far in Andalucia. The ‘Superpibes’ started their week with 6-3 6-4 to Enrique Goenaga and Arnau Ayats, but victory was also for Navarro and Lebron, who defeated with the same score Nachi Sager and Salva Oria. Tomorrow, for Stupaczuk/Di Nenno, in the round of 16 are Alex Chozas and Edu Alonso (14); Navarro and Lebron, on the other hand, cross the Argentines Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger.
MEN The stars who will continue to play together after the Malaga Premier Padel P1 also started with a win. Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, who are coming off victories in the Rome Major and Genova P2, beat 6-0 6-4 Javi Rico and Juanlu Esbri (in the round of 16 are Teo Zapata and Javier Barahona, the number 16 seed); Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, on the other hand, after their defeat in the Genova final, started again with a 6-3 6-0 win over Antonio Luque and Facundo Dominguez, and tomorrow they will face Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz (11).
WOMEN Excellent debut, in the women’s draw, for ‘Martita’ Ortega and Sofia Araujo: the Genova P2 champions, seeded number 4, gave up only two games (6-2 6-0) to Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros, and will now face Ari Cañellas and Teresa Navarro, protagonists of the day’s marathon (two hours and 43 minutes to beat Carolina Navarro and Laia Rodriguez). Double 6-3 for Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (1) over Carla Mesa and Sara Ruiz Soto: next up against Ksenia Sharifova and Lucia Martinez Gomez. Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3) also did well, with their double 6-0 over Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo to reach the round of 16 against wild cards Alba Perez and Ana Varo Ramos.
The schedule of the round of 16 will start at 10 a.m. on three courts: on the Centre court, there will be three matches in the morning session and three in the afternoon session not before 4 p.m..
