Genova Premier Padel P2, the draws Italian wild cards Cremona and Cassetta will face Navarro and Lebron
July 1, 2024After the show of the BNL Italy Major, the Premier Padel circuit makes another stop in Italy, with the P2 in Genova. At the Valletta Cambiaso Park, in Liguria’s capital city, after the end of the qualifiers, from Wednesday to Sunday, two main draw tables made up of 32 (men) and 28 pairs (women). Among the men, there are Italians in the way of the big: wild cards Marco Cassetta and Simone Cremona will face in the first round Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron (who will play in Genoa and Malaga before making new ‘parejas’), seeded number 4, while for the other two Italians Riccardo Sinicropi and Lorenzo Di Giovanni – who will face Jairo Bautista and Gonzalo Alfonso in the first round – there could be a duel with Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia if the two leaders of the draw get through the first round against Jairo Bautista and Gonzalo Alfonso. On the other side, for number 2 and Rome champions Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan there are Josete Rico and Agustin Gutierrez. Last two tournaments, as for Lebron/Navarro, also for Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno, with the ‘Superpibes’ opposing in the first round Javi Rico and Juanlu Esbri, last weekend’s winners of the OYSHO Valladolid FIP Gold. Potential quarter-finalists: Coello/Tapia (1)–Tello/Belasteguin (5), Yanguas/Garrido (6)–Stupaczuk/Di Nenno (3), Navarro/Lebron (4)–Arroyo/Gutierrez (6, new pair from Genova), Nieto/Sanz (7)-Chingotto/Galan (2). Chance, therefore, of a challenge between Lebron and Galan already in the semifinals.
WOMEN The draw was made by Italy’s Carolina Orsi, who will make her debut with her new partner, Spain’s Nuria Rodriguez, number 23 in the FIP ranking: her hand drew a pair from the qualifiers. The Genova Premier Padel P2 sees the return of Bea Gonzalez alongside Delfi Brea: the number 2 seed will debut in the round of 16 against Carolina Navarro and Laia Rodriguez or against Sharifova/Martinez. Leading the line-up are number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who after winning the Rome Major will start against Ariadna Cañellas and Teresa Navarro or Jimena Velasco and Noa Canovas. A qualified pair or the Osoro/Marrero trap for Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3), with the poker of pairs benefiting from a bye in the first round completed by the new ‘pareja’ formed by Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4), together again and opposing a qualified pair or Alix Collombon and Julieta Bidahorria. Potential quarter-finalists: Josemaria/Sanchez (1)-Sainz/Llaguno (6), a possible rematch of the Rome final, Castellò/Jensen (6)-Triay/Fernandez (3), Ortega/Araujo (4), Salazar/Virseda (7, also a new pair), Riera/Goenaga (8, another newcomer)-Brea/Gonzalez (2). For Riera/Goenaga, a tricky debut against Bea Caldera and Lorena Rufo, winners of the OYSHO Valladolid FIP Gold.
