Genova Premier Padel P2, day 3. Lebron and Galan, the first time as opponents
July 5, 2024Together, Ale Galan and Juan Lebron have written pages of padel history. They have won everything there was to win, even at the start of this season, with the P1 in Riyadh opening the new era of the Premier Padel circuit. In Genova, for the first time, Ale and Juan will find themselves on the same court, but against each other, and whatever happens, it will be a party. Galan and Fede Chingotto, the number 2 seed at the Valletta Cambiaso Park, also made it through the quarterfinals without problems with a 6-3 6-4 win in one hour and 15 minutes over Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz; even less took Lebron and Paquito Navarro, who took only 47 minutes to beat 6-1 6-0 Lucho Capra and Maxi Sanchez. If the first time as opponents between Galan and Lebron will be the semifinal of the bottom half of the men’s draw, in the top half the number 1 and 3 seeds will compete in the top half: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia suffered through one set (they were down 4-5) before beating Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona 7-5 6-3, while Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno beat 6-4 6-3 Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido.
WOMEN It will be a challenge between former teammates that will also open, at 1 p.m. the semifinals schedule of the women’s draw. Until the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, in fact, Sofia Araujo and Virginia Riera played as a pair. In Genova, however, there will only be a place in the final for one of the two: Araujo, paired with Marta Ortega, is the number 4 seed and took advantage of the withdrawal in the third set of the number 7 seed Alejandra Salazar and Veronica Virseda (who had played with Ortega until Rome), while Riera now shares the square with Carmen Goenaga and, as number 8 seed, eliminated the number 2 seed Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez with a score of 7-5 6-2. The other semi-final, on the other hand, will see the top-ranked pairs facing off: Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, the queens of the Rome Major and number 1 in the FIP ranking, beat Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno once again and with the same result – 6-1 6-0, as happened in the final of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel at the Foro Italico – with the two experienced Spanish players having nothing to do against the queens of world padel. Josemaria/Sanchez will find Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3), who in the afternoon reached the ninth semifinal in a row thanks to a double 6-3 in one hour and 36 minutes over Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen.
