It will be Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (1) against Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (6) again, but this time there is ‘only’ a place in the semifinals. In the women’s draw, the top eight pairs on the entry list will play each other in the quarterfinals. The debut of the world number 1 (6-3 6-0 to Jimena Velasco and Noa Canovas) was impressive, as was that of Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez (2), 6-1 6-1 to Ksenia Sharifova and Lucia Martinez Gomez. Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3) also gave up two games to Aranzazu Osoro and Marta Marrero (6-0 6-2); ‘Martita’ Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4) also did well, 6-3 6-2 to Julieta Bidahorria and Alix Collombon. This is the schedule for the quarterfinals: Josemaria/Sanchez (1)-Sainz/Llaguno (6), Castellò/Jensen (5)-Triay/Fernandez (3), Ortega/Araujo (4)-Salazar/Virseda (7), Riera/Goenaga (8)-Brea/Gonzalez (2). Out the last Italian on the draw, Carolina Orsi, defeated in a pair with Nuria Rodriguez by Castellò/Jensen.
MEN If in the women’s draw, all the seeded pairs are in the quarters, in the men’s draw there were three victories against predictions. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1) took 58 minutes to beat 6-3 6-2 Gonza Alfonso and Jairo Bautista (in the quarters they will find Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona, victorious 1-6 6-4 6-1 over Juan Tello and Fernando Belasteguin, number 5 in the seedings), while on the other side of the draw number 2 Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan had to work harder to beat young Argentines Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger, 6-4 7-6. In the quarters there will be no Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz (7), but Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz. Also ahead are the number 3 and 4 seeds: Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno overcame 7-5 7-5 Nachi Sager and Salva Oria and now await Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido (6), while Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron defeated 6-3 6-1 Teo Zapata and Javier Barahona and in the quarters they find Lucho Capra and Maxi Sanchez, who – on their return as a pair – got the better of Alex Arroyo and Sanyo Gutierrez (8), Sanchez’s own partner until Rome (4-6 6-3 6-4).
The quarterfinal schedule will start at 11 a.m. on the Centre court and at 12 noon on court No. 1.
