FIP Platinum Sardegna: Edu Alonso and Momo Gonzalez, a great pair is born

That “pareja” is super. What immediately catches the eye is the synergy on the court between the ‘boss’ Momo Gonzalez, number 12 in the FIP ranking, and his young partner, Valencian Edu Alonso, who, after reaching the quarter-finals five times in the Premier Padel circuit, achieves his first success of the season in the tournament-diamond of the CUPRA FIP Tour, the FIP Platinum Sardegna. In their first tournament together, this pair immediately hit their stride with impressive force, to the extent that their final win with a score of 6-2 6-2 in just one hour of dominating padel over Cepero and Lijo turned out to be the second easiest match of this major international debut. The journey was unstoppable: not a single set conceded and the only tightly contested match was the quarter-final against Leal-Campagnolo (6-4 6-4). Before and after: 6-2 6-4 against the Italians Bruno-Iacovino, 6-2 6-1 against Ortega-Marti, and, in the semifinals, 6-2 6-4 against Guerrero García before closing the final with a strength that now awaits challenges in other tournaments, as Momo Gonzalez emphasizes: “We were at our first tournament together and this success is a wonderful starting point for the future in international level tournaments, like this one here in Cagliari”. The next test will come soon, at the P2 Padel Premier in Finland at the end of July and early August.

TOWARDS THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS Edu Alonso, overjoyed, dedicates “This first major success to my family and my team, who are always by my side and give me confidence. I am thrilled and also excite”. Thus concludes the great adventure of the FIP Platinum Sardegna, in a week that awarded Carolina Orsi and Nuria Rodriguez their first major international trophy and delighted the audience with a series of champions who will be remembered in the history of this tournament: from the greatest of all time, Fernando Belasteguín paired with Javi Garrido, to the ‘Generation Z’ idol Tolito Aguirre paired with another padel showman, Lamperti. Additionally, many top players were present, from Campagnolo to Leal, from Maxi Sánchez to Capra, and the top women’s players, including former world number one and finalist against Orsi-Rodriguez, Marta Marrero, as well as Osoro, Riera, and others. Goodbye Cagliari? Not quite, as another major padel adventure awaits: the FIP European Championships.
