FIP European Padel Championships, day 2. Women Spain, Denmark, Italy and Sweden only know how to win
July 23, 2024At TC Cagliari it was another emotional morning on the day 2 of the women’s tournament of the FIP European Padel Championships. Four national teams, after three victories on the first day, were able to close out their ties undefeated on day 2 as well, two of them in Group A. European champions Spain overcame Switzerland 3-0 thanks to Llaguno/Sainz, (6-0 6-1), Ortega/Rufo (6-1 6-2) and Caldera/Castelló (6-0 6-1), but great performance also by Denmark, who after yesterday’s 3-0 to Switzerland defeated Lithuania with the same score.
In Group B, France won their second tie in a row, but lost their third match against Portugal (Ginier-Barbier/Collombon and Touly/Soubrie won, as Belgium, 3-0 against Poland). In Group C, Italy, the host nation, continued their 3-0 win over Finland, beating Hungary thanks to Orsi/Sussarello and Stellato/Marchetti (6-0 6-0 for both), as well as Pappacena/Casali (6-2 6-3). In the same group, second tie was also won by Germany (2-1 to Finland).
The fourth team with only victories is Sweden, who beat Estonia 3-0 in Group B, with the Netherlands managing to overcome the resistance of Great Britain (2-1) at the end of a six-hour battle. Tomorrow, from 9 a.m., the third and final day of the group stage, with all the names of the quarterfinal qualifiers.
