This is how the FIP Ranking changes after the Rome Major. Chingotto and Fernandez continue their climb

The BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, the second Major of the season, has brought many important movements in the FIP Ranking, both in the men’s and women’s categories. This is because in Majors, 2,000 points are up for grabs for the winning pairs and, in any case, even results before the finals can lead to shake-ups and changes in position.

MEN In the Top 10, the victory of the ‘Chingalan’ at the Foro Italico allowed Alejandro Galan to regain the second position, momentarily lost after his defeat in the final on 3rd June in the Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1, at the expense of Agustin Tapia, who dropped to third. The triumph in Rome, on the other hand, gained Federico Chingotto two positions, who climbed to number 4, his best ranking: the Argentine overtook Juan Lebron (5) and Martin Di Nenno (6), both eliminated in the semifinals. Among the top 30, on the other hand, the most relevant leap was that of Javi Leal (class of 2003), who gained six positions, rising from 33 to 27 by virtue of the quarter-finals reached after defeating in the round of 16, with his partner Lucas Campagnolo, the number 5 seed Fernando Belasteguin and Juan Tello. Alex Arroyo’s performance was also excellent, rising from 23rd to 20th place by reaching the quarter-finals with his partner Edu Alonso before being defeated by tournament winners but after defeating Maxi Sanchez and Sanyo Gutierrez in the round of 16 with a double 6-2. Finally, in the Top 100, it’s important to highlight the 10 positions gained by both Alex Chozas (now number 46 thanks to reaching the round of 16) and Victor Mena (from 85 to 75), who stopped in the round of 16 with partner Fran Ramirez against Chozas and Lucho Capra.

WOMEN In the women’s FIP Ranking, Delfi Brea regained the fourth position, lost in Santiago, at the expense of her usual partner Bea Gonzalez (5), who missed the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel due to injury. An overtaking occurred despite losing in the quarter-finals to Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen. Also in the Top 10, Claudia Fernandez continues her climb to number 7, overtaking Alejandra Salazar: at the start of the season, the young Spanish player from 2006 – now Gemma Triay’s partner – was even at number 24. With the semifinal in Rome, Claudia Jensen again gains a place in the Top 10, having already reached it thanks to her victory in the P1 in Acapulco. The final in Rome also allowed Lucia Sainz (11) and Patty Llaguno (13) to move up three places. In the Top 30, Marina Guinart (now 20) jumped eight places, thanks to her first quarter-final in a Major obtained after having already finished fourth in a P1 (Riyadh) and in a P2 (Asunción) in 2024. Lucia Martinez and Ksenia Sharifova also had a great result: their first quarter-final together gave them both a jump of six places to number 23 and 27 respectively. Among the Top 100, Alba Gallardo (class of 2005) after the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel played in tandem with Delfi Brea jumped 47 places from number 121 to number 74. Also great was the result of Carla Mesa and Sara Ruiz Soto, who gained 390 points thanks to their first quarter-final in a Premier Padel tournament and defeating number 7 seed Alejandra Salazar and Carmen Goenaga. Mesa gained seven positions (now number 33), Ruiz Soto on the other hand 10 (36).
