FIP Rise Riyadh, double Spanish win in the Saudi capital

The 2024 edition of FIP Rise Riyadh, Saudi leg of the CUPRA FIP Tour circuit, speaks Spanish. At Padel In “Al Rabwah”, two Iberian pairs won, with the men’s draw being won by David Gala Sanchez and Anton “Tonet” Sans and the women’s draw being won by Anna Ortiz and Alba Gallardo Salvado.

Among the men, that of Gala and “Tonet” Sans was a triumphant journey. The number 1 seeded “pareja” respected the odds and in the five matches played to win the title did not give up a single set, leaving a total of 19 games on the road. This was a great satisfaction for Gala and “Tonet” Sans, who in late March at the Puerto Cabello Premier Padel P2 – coming from the qualifiers – had gone all the way to the Round of 16, where they bowed out in straight sets to Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia.

More difficult was the road to glory for Ortiz and Gallardo, who had been assigned the No. 3 seed in Riyadh. The two Spanish players took a big risk in the opener in the Round of 16, where they prevailed in three sets against fellow countrywomen Portillo and Peco; in the title match, however, they got the better of the number 1 seeded Lujan Rodriguez/Dominguez Gracia in two sets (7-6, 6-1). “I can’t be happier with the team we form and I am very happy to have shown by your side how well we have done things“, Ortiz said addressing her playing partner, “It’s good to share so many moments together my friend, I appreciate you“.
