FIP Rise Cordenons, trophy to Olsson-Axelsson and Lopez Diaz-Garcia

A Swedish victory and a Spanish one in the FIP Rise in Cordenons (Italy). In the men’s draw, it was Albin Olsson and Adam Axelsson who lifted the trophy: they were not among the seeded players, but won five matches, three of them in the third set. In the final, Olsson and Axelsson beat another non-set seeded pair, the Spaniards Guillem Figuerola and Guillermo Casal Maldonado, 6-3 6-4. “Here’s our first international title, thank you for a great weekend”, said Olsson, who moved up 45 places in the rankings to number 221 (Axelsson, on the other hand, rose to number 225, +56).

Among the women, however, success in the first tournament as a pair for Nati Lopez Diaz and Lucia Garcia, without losing a set to 6-1 6-3 in the final over Britain’s Aimee Gibson and the Dutch Maaike Betz. For Lopez Diaz, now world number 122, it is the third CUPRA FIP Tour tournament won in 2024 after FIP Promotion Ciudad de Jaén and FIP Rise Betsson Sweden II. First title, on the other hand, for Garcia, number 104. “Thank you Nati for your trust and for believing in this pair from the beginning – Garcia’s words –.
