Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1, day 6. Coello-Tapia again against Chingotto-Galan. Eternal Sainz-Llaguno
June 3, 2024Them again. It will be Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan to play for the Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1 title. It will be the third final in a row, the fifth in the last six tournaments of the Premier Padel circuit, between the pairs who have become the number one and two seeded players in the world. Nothing to do for their opponents: in one hour and 7 minutes, Coello/Tapia beat Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron 6-4 6-4, while it took Chingotto/Galan two minutes less to defeat Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno 6-3 6-2. The head to head in the finals is of two victories on each side: Coello and Tapia triumphed in Puerto Cabello and Asunción, while Chingotto and Galan won in Brussels and Mar del Plata. In addition to these precedents, the semi-final of the Sevilla Premier Padel P2 was won by ‘Fede’ and ‘Ale’, in their sixth final in six tournaments played as a pair.
WOMEN If the final of the men’s draw will see the top two pairs in the seeding take to the court, competing for the title will be two pairs who have never won a stage of the Premier Padel circuit. On the court will be number 3, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, and number 8, the eternal Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno, 39 years old for both. Triay and Fernandez stopped the run of FIP number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, defeated 7-6 6-2 in an hour and 50 minutes after going to serve to close out the first set before suffering the break that changed the match. In the second semifinal, Sainz/Llaguno brought their great experience to beat against Andrea Ustero and Alejandra Alonso: after a first set that ended in a tiebreak, Sainz/Llaguno gave up just one game to their opponents in the second. Of the four finalists, only Gemma Triay has already won a Premier Padel tournament, the first one played in ‘combined’ formula, last year in Rome with Marta Ortega. The women’s final will open Monday’s schedule, starting at 18.30 local time, 0.30 CET. The men’s final will follow.
