Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1, day 5 Paquito-Lebron, ‘Chingalan’, ‘Superpibes’, what marathons to go to the semifinals!
June 2, 2024Strong emotions at the Movistar Arena, where the Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1 elected the semifinalist pairs. In the men’s draw, the top four seeds competed, but the path to the semifinals was different. The only ones to finish in two sets (6-2 6-2) were Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who defeated Juan Tello and Fernando Belasteguin in 47 minutes. The other three matches were three battles: the number 1 seeded players will face Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron (3), who are chasing their first final as a pair and will try to do so in Chile after defeating Edu Alonso and Alex Arroyo (11) 6-3 3-6 6-4 in two hours and 3 minutes. In the bottom half, however, the semifinals will be the same as in Asunción and Mar del Plata: Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2) beat Momo Gonzalez and Alex Ruiz (7) 6-3 5-7 7-6 at the end of a very well-balanced match, and the same goes for ‘Superpibes’ Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno, who against Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido had lost the first set in the tiebreak, before recovering and closing 6-7 7-5 6-4 in two hours and 33’.
WOMEN If in the men’s draw the first four pairs of the seeding reached the semifinals, the women’s draw had some surprises, but only in the bottom half, where the only seed left in the running for the title is number 8. The experience of Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno allowed the two Spanish to beat Nuria and Laia Rodriguez 6-1 6-1, but they will hardly forget a tournament that saw them beat Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez. Sainz/Llaguno will find Andrea Ustero and Alejandra Alonso, in their third semi-final in the Premier Padel 2024 circuit, the second in a row after Mar del Plata. The young Spanish players defeated Carolina Orsi and Aranzazu Osoro in the quarters with a score of 6-4 6-3. The semifinals of the top half, on the other hand, respected the predictions: Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, the world number 1s, eliminated Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda 6-4 6-1 and will face Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3), who beat 7-5 6-2 Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen.
They will open the schedule at 4 p.m. local time, 10 p.m. CET. They will be followed by Coello/Tapia-Navarro/Lebron, then not before 7 p.m. Chilean time (1 a.m. CET) Ustero/Alonso-Sainz/Llaguno and Stupaczuk/Di Nenno-Chingotto/Galan.
