Sevilla Premier Padel P2, day 2. Libaak-Augsburger, Next Gen gains Navarro and Lebron
May 2, 2024For months, Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger have been talked about as two of the greatest talents in padel’s NextGen. In La Cartuja, the two young Argentinians proved why: Libaak (born in 2005 and number 91 in the FIP ranking) and Augsburger (2004, number 87), who started from the qualifiers, eliminated from the Sevilla Premier Padel P2 Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, who were coming from two consecutive semifinals in Puerto Cabello and Brussels, with the score of 6-4 6-2. On Thursday, in the round of 16, there is another tough but fascinating test, against the number 2 on the draw Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron, with the match closing the morning session on the centre court, starting at 10am. Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (4) gave up five games to Denis Perino and Marc Quilez (6-2 6-3) and await Edu Alonso and Alex Arroyo, while for Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido (6) the opener was a two-and-a-half-hour battle won 6-4 7-6 over Garcia/Munoz, opening the gate to the round of 16 against Lucho Capra and Alex Chozas. If Fernando Belasteguin celebrated his return to the court paired with Juan Tello by beating 6-2 6-3 Miguel Lamperti and Juan Cruz Belluati, in the evening came the victory of the two finalist pairs of the Lotto Brussels Premier P2: Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, number 3 in the seeding and champions in Belgium, eliminated 6-3 6-2 Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona (Thursday in the round of 16 not before 4 p.m. are Fernandez/Barahona), while Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia qualified for the round of 16 (against Sager/Oria) thanks to a 6-1 6-3 over José Antonio Diestro and Pablo Lijo.
WOMEN At the Estadio de la Cartuja, the women’s tournament also got into full swing, with the top seeds on the day 2 all qualifying for the round of 16, when the top four seeded pairs will also play. 7-6 6-0 for Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda (5) over Nogueira/Talavan, 6-4 6-2 for Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen (6) over Castillon/Orsi, 6-0 6-3 for Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo (7) over De La Rosa Ramos/Portillo. In the round of 16, Puerto Cabello and Brussels champions Delfina Brea and Bea Gonzalez, the number 2 seed, against young Spanish Alonso/Ustero; also playing will be FIP number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, their second match on the centre court (the programme will start at 10am) against Barrera/Caparros. Also on court will be Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3) against Osoro/Goenaga and Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo (4) against Nuria Rodriguez and Maria Eulalia Rodriguez Abajo.
