Mar del Plata Premier Padel P1, day 4. Belasteguin, another epic night. Now Coello-Tapia

Three more sets, another night as eternal champion, more strong emotions at the Polideportivo Islas Malvinas. Fernando Belasteguin is enjoying his last professional tournament in his native Argentina as best he could: after defeating José Diestro and Pablo Lijó in the second round, another victory came for Bela and Juan Tello, the number five seed in the Mar del Plata Premier Padel P1, this time coming from a one-set down against Javier Barahona and Teo Zapata (4-6 6-2 6-3 in two hours and 29 minutes). In the quarters there is a challenge to the top two players in the FIP ranking, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who qualified after the withdrawal of the Campagnolo/Leal pair at 6-0 2-1.

In the top half, Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido also celebrated thanks to a 6-2 6-4 win over Federico Chiostri and Maxi Sanchez Blasco, and above all Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, who with a double 6-4 win stopped the run of the number 3 seed Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron. In the bottom half, however, everything went according to plan and the order in which they entered the draw: the two quarter-finals will see Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (4) against Momo Gonzalez and Alex Ruiz (7), who eliminated Bergamini/Ruiz and Valdes/Sanchez Chamero respectively, and Maxi Sanchez and Sanyo Gutierrez (8) against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2), after their victories over Alonso/Arroyo and Sager/Oria.

WOMEN The prediction was also respected in the women’s draw, where the only non-leading pair to qualify for the quarters is the young Andrea Ustero and Alejandra Alonso. For the Spanish, it is now Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo (4), coming off a 6-2 7-5 win over Rodriguez/Rodriguez Abajo. The other quarter-final at the top end will see FIP number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (6-2 7-5 to Rufo/Caldera) and Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo (7, who gave up only three games to Martinez/Guinart). In the bottom half, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3) beat Perez/Martinez 6-2 6-0 and now await Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (8), after their 6-4 6-3 win over Mesa/Ruiz Soto. For Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez (2) finally came the 18th victory in a row: after a 6-0 6-4 win over Bellver/Borrero, in the quarterfinals are Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda (5), who overcame Orsi/Osoro with a double 6-4. The quarter-finals will all be played on centre court, starting at 9 a.m. Argentine time, 2 p.m. CET. A long and exciting day of padel.
