FIP Rise Diputacion de Malaga, Del Castillo-Mendez and Pozuelo-Atencia won the titles

Mario Del Castillo and Rafa Mendez were the two favourites in the FIP Rise Diputacion de Malaga. And the two Spanish didn’t fail, lifting the trophy in Andalucia by beating the number 2 seed Cayetano Rocafort and Alejandro Jerez in a hard-fought final (4-6 7-6 6-4). Del Castillo gained one position in the FIP ranking, rising to number 56; for Mendez, on the other hand, a leap of four positions, from 84 to 80. “Thank you very much to the Nueva Alcantara Club for all the attention it has given us over the past few days – said Mendez –. We had a lot of fun and we were able to win a title”.

The women’s tournament was won by the number eight seed on the draw, Ainara Pozuelo and Valeria Atencia, who beat the youngsters Claudia Escacena and Sara Foguer Lapuente (6-4 7-6) in the final. For Pozuelo, +17 in the FIP ranking (she is now number 146); four positions were gained by Atencia, who climbed to number 121. “It was a perfect weekend, with five victories at the end of five very tough matches – Pozuelo’s words –.
