FIP Rise Burriana, Perino-Piotto triumph in men’s draw. For the Argentinean a Top 100 victory in the FIP ranking
May 6, 2024“Champions, Nachito! After four tough matches…we managed to become FIP Rise Burriana champions. We are very happy with the level we maintained throughout the tournament’. This is how Italy’s Denis Perino celebrated the title won in the CUPRA FIP Tour tournament in Spain, which he achieved in tandem with Argentina’s Ignacio Piotto. Number 1 seed in the draw, Perino and Piotto overcame in two sets – 6-3, 6-2 – the Spaniards Albert Trillas Garcia and Manuel Castano Saguero, who had even entered the draw as lucky losers, in the final. The toughest hurdle the winners had to overcome in the semifinals, when they got the better of the pair composed by French Thomas Leygue and Spaniard Alvaro Montiel Caruso 7-6 in the third set. With this triumph, Perino maintains his position (number 44) in the FIP ranking, while Piotto gains four positions and rises to number 100.
In the women’s draw, the Spaniards Jana Montes Cabruja and Martina Calvo Santamaria, who were not seeded in the Main Draw but together had won last month’s FIP Promotion Betsson Sweden III, came out on top. The two Spaniards did not drop a single set, and in the final they defeated the Portuguese Catarina Castro Vilela and the Spanish Valeria Atencia Basilio in two tie-breaks. “I am very happy with the level we expressed,” Jana Montes’ words, “In some games we were sinking, but we already know that we love to row…”.
