Asunción Premier Padel P2, day 3. Belasteguin is back: first quarter-final of the season

The Premier Padel circuit is showing lots of young talent, both in the men’s and women’s draw, but the legends are trying to keep up the rhythm. At the ueno SND Arena in Asunción (Paraguay), Fernando Belasteguin – recovering from an injury – reached the quarter-finals for the first time this season: paired with Juan Tello, ‘Bela’ (seed number 5 of the Asunción Premier Padel P2) beat Enrique Goenaga and Juanlu Esbri 2-6 6-2 6-3, and now awaits a spectacular challenge against Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron (3). A match, this one, that will close the schedule of a day in which all the best players will play. The only non-leading pair to make it through to Friday, among the men, is that formed by Lucas Campagnolo and Javi Leal, who beat 6-3 7-6 Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona, who in turn defeated number 8 on the draw, Maxi Sanchez and Sanyo Gutierrez. Campagnolo/Leal, now, will face Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (4); the other quarters will be Coello/Tapia (1)-Yanguas/Garrido (6) and Gonzalez/Ruiz (7)-Chingotto-Galan (2).

WOMEN Chingotto and Galan are dreaming of their third title in a row among the men; among the women, however, Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez, the number 2 seed in the Asunción Premier Padel P2, began the hunt for their fourth consecutive trophy by beating Sharifova/Martinez 6-1 6-4, and now await Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo (7) in the quarters. The debuts of FIP number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (6-3 6-0 to Canovas/Velasco) were also ok; now, for Josemaria-Sanchez, there will be Araceli Martinez and Marina Guinart, the only ‘pareja’ not among the seeded players. The other two quarter-finals are between Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (8) opposing Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (3) and, at the bottom, between Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda (5) and Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen (6).

The schedule will start at 10 a.m. local time, 4 p.m. CET, on the centre court; afternoon session not before 5 p.m., 11 p.m. CET. On court number 3, two matches will be played starting at 1 p.m. local time, 19:00 CET. The tournament moves into the decisive phase.
