May 16, 2024Only 24 hours ago, 15-year-old Paraguayan Facundo Dehnike left the ueno SND Arena with the standing ovation after his debut on the Premier Padel circuit. Dehnike, paired with the other youngster Teo Gamondi (2006), missed the chance to move to the round of 16 of the Asunción Premier Padel P2, but padel is also looking to the future with other Next Gen talents. Pablo Cardona, born in 2004, paired with Javier Ruiz defeated two legends like Maxi Sanchez and Sanyo Gutierrez (3-6 6-3 6-4), and so did Argentines Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger against Nachi Sager and Salva Oria (6-3 6-2). Winning debuts also for the number 1 on the draw of the seventh Premier Padel tournament of the season, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who defeated Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz 6-1 6-3 and in the round of 16 they will face Lucho Capra and Alex Chozas, coming back from a three-hour marathon to overcome Xisco Gil and Ramiro Moyano (2-6 6-1 7-6). WOMEN But the Next Gen also excelled also in the women’s draw, with 2004 Noa Canovas and Jimena Velasco in the round of 16 after Rufo-Caldera withdrew, when the young Spaniards were ahead 5-2 in the third set. For Canovas and Velasco, there is now the challenge of FIP ranking number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who will debut alongside Brea/Gonzalez (2, against Sharifova/Martinez), Triay/Fernandez (3, against Gomez/Schuck) and Ortega/Virseda (5, against Casali/Soriano). The longest match of the day, however, was the one won by Araceli Martinez and Marina Guinart, who defeated the number 9 seeded Aranzazu Osoro and Carmen Goenaga. A battle that lasted three hours and 5 minutes and ended 6-7 7-5 7-6.
