Asunción Premier Padel P2, Coello and Tapia on the throne Brea-Gonzalez unstoppable: fourth title in a row

One winning streak continues, one does not. Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez confirmed their magical moment, winning their fourth consecutive tournament in Asunción, all in the P2 category: after Puerto Cabello, Brussels and Sevilla, here was their triumph at the ueno SND Arena. In the men’s final, however, here was the return of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who stopped the series of tournaments won by Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan at two, and returned to win a title, the fourth of the season, which had been missing since Puerto Cabello. Another great success for the Premier Padel circuit, with the centre court in Asunción filled with fans and with the presence, among others, of former Argentine footballer and legend Martin Palermo, now coach of Olimpia Asunción.

MEN Almost two months after their last victory, in Venezuela, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia returned to lift a trophy. They did so against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan at the end of a two-hour final that ended 6-1 3-6 7-6. The match seemed easy for Coello and Tapia, who won the first five games and closed the first set by losing only one. Then, however, came the ‘Chingalan’, who had lost her only match as a pair in Puerto Cabello, in the final against Coello and Tapia. Break in the sixth game and the match was decided in the third set, with many breaks and with Chingotto and Galan who seemed ready to win again: on 5-4 and serve, however, all the talent of Agustin Tapia came out, who extended the match and then took it to a tiebreak dominated 7-1 by the number 1 of the FIP ranking Arturo Coello and by a Tapia who with this victory goes back to number 2, bypassing Galan. “I want to apologise to Arturo for when I was not a good teammate – Tapia said –. I have to learn from him in this aspect. But today I want to send my regards to Fernando Belasteguin, who has a birthday today and has been very important for us and for padel. He is the best in history”. Coello, on the other hand, made a confession: “After the two defeats we didn’t sleep thinking about how to deal with this pair”.

WOMEN If Chingotto and Galan lost after two finals won in a row, the magic moment of Delfina Brea and Bea Gonzalez, at their fourth consecutive P2 title, continues in the women’s draw. The Argentinean and the Spanish, in the final, beat Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez 6-3 7-5, who have yet to postpone their appointment with their first success as a pair. With the one in Asunción, that makes 16 consecutive victories for Delfi and Bea, who started better in the first set, immediately imposing their quality. In the second, however, seven breaks on 12 games, with Triay and Fernandez finding themselves serving at 5-4 with the possibility of taking the match to the decisive set. At that moment, however, came the break of the number 2 on the draw, who celebrated their triumph with three consecutive games. “We are very happy – the two winners said –. We are doing a great job on court and I think it’s showing”. Delfi added: “Now comes a special week for me, the most beautiful week of the year. I am looking forward to playing at home”.

The circuit remains in South America, with two consecutive P1s: first the one in Mar del Plata (Argentina) starting today, then the one in Santiago (Chile), with 2,000 total FIP ranking points up for grabs. The show goes on.
