FIP Rise Cairo, padel under the Pyramids

There are many efforts made by the Egyptian Padel Federation for the development of padel. Among them is the organisation of the FIP Rise Cairo, scheduled until Sunday at the Mountain View Club-El Sheikh Zayed. Good debut for the number 1 pair in the men’s draw, the French Maxime Moreau and Johan Bergeron, numbers 117 and 148 in the FIP ranking: double 6-2 to Khalanskii/Merkulov. Victory on the debut also for the number 2, the British Christian Medina Murphy and the Spaniard Belar Vera Lopez, who beat 6-1 6-1 the lucky losers Sioulis/Aue.

Leading the entry list of the women’s 20-pair draw, however, are Lucia Perez Parra (number 92 in the ranking) and Lorena Alonso De Lera (73), both returning from important results on the CUPRA FIP Tour: Perez Parra won the FIP Rise in Dubai with Laura Lujan Rodriguez, while Alonso De Lera last week lifted the trophy in the FIP Rise Rocks Lane paired with Ana Varo. After the first round matches played today, tomorrow the tournament features the round of 16. Quarters and semifinals on Friday, finals on Saturday.
