Puerto Cabello P2, day 3. ‘Chingalan’ ahead, but what a thrill with Goenaga-Zapata

Down a set, the number 3 seeds of the P2 in Puerto Cabello (Venezuela) managed to recover from a very difficult match against Enrique Goenaga and Teodoro Zapata, who delivered a great performance but were defeated 6-7 7-5 6-2 in two hours and 14 minutes. In the quarterfinals, ‘Chingalan’ will face Paquito Navarro and Sanyo Gutierrez (5), who defeated Nunes/Gomez Silingo 6-2 6-4. In the lower part of the draw, the other quarterfinal will be between Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (2), who beat Muñoz/Bautista 6-4 6-4 in a match interrupted for two hours due to rain, and the young Libaak/Augsburger. In the upper part, victories for Coello/Tapia (1, 6-3 6-4 against qualifiers Sans/Gala Sanchez), Rubio/Sanchez (3-6 7-5-6-3 against Ruiz/Bergamini), Nieto/Sanz (who benefited from the retirement in the first set of Chozas/Campagnolo), and Ayats/Guerrero, leading 6-4 4-1 before the retirement of Gonzalez/Lebron (4).
WOMEN The women’s draw has also reached the quarterfinals, with five matches that all concluded in straight sets. Double 6-0 for Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda (3) against Atencia/Marques: looking ahead to the quarterfinals, they will be met by Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo (5), who eliminated Bellver/Rodriguez 6-4 6-2. In the lower part, instead, Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo (4) won 6-0 6-1 against Ortiz/Lucendo; Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (7) advance to the quarterfinals thanks to a 6-1 6-1 victory over Collombon/Bidahorria.
