In Puerto Cabello the first P2 of the season. New pairs and a chance for Brea/Gonzalez
March 24, 2024The fourth stage of the Premier Padel 2024 – the professional circuit governed by the International Padel Federation (FIP) – is being played in Puerto Cabello, 200 kilometres west of Caracas, Venezuela. After the first Major (Doha) and two P1s (Riyadh and Acapulco), the one in Puerto Cabello will be the first P2 of the season, with a men’s draw of 32 pairs and a women’s one of 28, with the first four seeds going straight into the round of 16. A category, that of P2, introduced by FIP and Premier Padel for a season that is already in full swing: there will be nine tournaments in this category in 2024, two of them in South America (the other will be played in May in Paraguay). There is great expectation in Venezuela for the arrival of the world’s best players, some of whom will form new pairs: an aspect, this, that makes the P2 in Puerto Cabello even more interesting.
MEN And while the qualifiers are underway, the main draw, starting on Tuesday 26th, was also drawn today. Leading the entry list will be Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who will make their debut against Diego Gil and Cristian Gutierrez; on the other side of the draw, as the number 2 seed, Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno, expected in the first round against Sergio Alba and Raul Marcos. Then, here are the new entries: number 3 seed Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto (first match against Javier Valdes and Rafael Mendez), while Juan Lebron and Momo Gonzalez (4) will find a pair coming from the qualifiers. For two of the four finalists of the P1 in Acapulco, therefore, it will be the start of a new phase in their careers: Ale and Juan are in the opposite halves of the draw, a clash only possible in the final.
WOMEN In the women’s draw, the number 1 seeds will be Delfina Brea and Bea Gonzalez, who will try to take advantage of the forfait of Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez to chase the first title of the season. Brea/Gonzalez await Van der Hoek/Santos or Piltcher/Valenzuela in the round of 16. For Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, the number 2 seed, Orsi/Lobo or Venezuelan wild cards Grau/Turrillo. Virginia Riera/Sofia Araujo and Jessica Castelló/Claudia Jensen, respectively seeded number 5 and 6, are both in the top half of the table: there will be a different final to the GNP Mexico P1.
