FIP Seniors World Padel Championships expands: from 16 to 24 teams. Carraro: “Historic decision, thanks to the work of the federations”

An historic, even revolutionary decision: to change the format of a World Championship on the run thanks to the enthusiasm of those who want to participate. The International Padel Federation (FIP), once again following the philosophy of ‘think different’, has taken an extaordinary decision: to increase, from the planned 16 to 24, the number of national teams that will participate at the final stage of the FIP Seniors World Padel Championships 2024 in La Nucìa (Alicante), the competition that awards the world title in the Veterans category. This decision is the result of the enthusiasm of the federations and the athletes, with 30 men’s and 22 women’s different national teams – representing as many countries – asking to take the court to continue their dream of winning a world title in the Seniors category.

In a letter sent to the national federations of the FIP family signed by President Luigi Carraro, it is stated that the FIP itself is opening “the doors to more nations to participate in this event, celebrating the ‘diversity’ of world padel: more matches, more competition, more emotions and more fun. This edition will be the biggest in history, setting new benchmarks in terms of organisation”. Carraro wrote also that this is “the result of the tireless work of our federations, which have driven the development of padel and made this growth possible”.

It comes as the result of a shared philosophy for the FIP and the national federations, a philosophy that follows a common concept according to which talent has no age, only a different way of managing it: it must be enhanced with young people and used for entertainment and in a didactic key for those players who have gone through the last few years of our sport, leaving their mark. The fact that talent, like padel, has no age, and that the journey taken by the FIP and national Federations is the right one, is reflected in this massive demand for participation in the next men’s and women’s FIP Seniors World Padel Championships. Carraro, addressing the national Federations, concluded with a praise and a wish: “We are firmly convinced that together we will write another important chapter in the history of our sport, producing the most successful edition ever and giving our players and fans an unforgettable experience”.
