From October 14 to 20, the FIP Platinum lands in Menorca
January 25, 2024A new stage for the FIP Platinum in Spain: after the presentation of the Valladolid tournament, scheduled for June, Menorca will host the stage of the FIP Platinum circuit from October 14 to 20. The Balearic island will continue to take a prominent place, this time in the most prestigious category among the tournaments of the CUPRA FIP Tour, the circuit of the International Padel Federation, which includes about 120 tournaments on five continents, with 200 FIP ranking points at stake for each winning pair.
The presentation of the tournament, which will be played in an iconic venue like the Pabellón Menorca in Mahón, took place at the FITUR in Madrid. The event was attended by the president of the Consell de Menorca, Adolfo Vilafranca, the president of the Federación Española de Pádel, Ramón Morcillo, the sports director of the International Padel Federation, Guillermo Alcaide, the vice president of the Federació de Padel de Les Illes Balears, Jose Mª Hoyos, the general manager of Biosport, Toni Capó, and the champion Gemma Triay.
The president of the FEP, Ramón Morcillo, expressed his satisfaction: “In the last 5 years, Minorca has been the venue for top-level padel competitions, and this year could not be an exception. We have worked side by side to ensure that the tournament becomes a reality. We are confident it will be a success, both in terms of organization and participation, as it has been in the past”.
Gemma Triay, a native of Minorca, also spoke about the importance of padel for the island: “When they told me about the possibility of including an FIP Platinum in the calendar, I immediately said yes. This is the future. Premier Padel and FIP are the future of padel, and I believe that Minorca must be a part of it”.
