FIP Platinum Valladolid, from 24 to 30 June the best of world padel. Carraro: “Plaza Mayor has always been one of the symbols of the sport”

Plaza Mayor confirms itself as one of the most attractive locations in the world for padel champions. Thus, from June 24th to 30th, Valladolid will host a FIP Platinum, the most prestigious category among the tournaments of the CUPRA FIP Tour, the International Padel Federation’s circuit that has around 120 tournaments on five continents, with 200 FIP ranking points for each winning pair. This choice is part of the project carried out by the FIP with the Spanish Padel Federation through which organisers recognised by the federation themselves will take the FIP Platinum and Gold tournaments throughout the territory, thus creating an elite competitive fabric in Spain with the highest competitions on the International Padel Federation circuit. A fabric that offers a new vision of the discipline throughout the country with the objective of bringing together the best female players and male players in the world, as in the case of the FIP Platinum in Valladolid. Without losing sight of a main objective for the FIP, the FEP and the entire movement: to offer young talents the chance to gain experience at the highest level and thus guarantee a future and generational change for padel.

The FIP Platinum in Valladolid was presented at a press conference held in Valladolid in the presence of FIP president Luigi Carraro, the president of the Spanish padel federation Ramon Morcillo, the mayor of Valladolid Jesus Julio Carnero, and the councillor for tourism and events Blanca Jimenez: also at the table, however, was world number one Arturo Coello, who is at home in Valladolid, testifying to how much the players are keen not to miss the event, which will come in a week that has no other tournaments on the international calendar. A choice, that of the FIP, that clearly highlights the project dedicated to Spain, aimed at making the most of Valladolid’s Platinum and the tournaments of the same category and of the Gold category that will be staged in the territory.

CARRARO “Thanks to the City of Valladolid and the Spanish federation for having wanted us here, in the city of the world’s number one Arturo Coello – said FIP president Luigi Carraro –. For me, today is a special day, because it reminds me of the first steps of my presidency, when padel was very well known in Spain and less so in the rest of the world. Back then, when I was asked what padel was, I used to show pictures and videos of Plaza Mayor to make people understand how padel is an extraordinary sport and unique in the world for the possibility of organising events in incredible locations like this. In recent years, padel has evolved, developed strongly at an international level and we have arrived at the creation of a single circuit from 2024. The centrality of Spain and Valladolid, however, is not in question: this is demonstrated by the fact that we have placed the tournament in a week in which there are no other international events and the work with the FEP to bring other major FIP events to the country. And not only that: we will have here in Valladolid the number one Arturo Coello, the best players in the world chasing the 200 points of the new FIP ranking”.

COELLO Among them, of course, Arturo Coello: “For the players, but obviously for me, this tournament is special and goes beyond any category. When I heard about the organisation of a FIP Platinum here in Valladolid I spoke to my team and said that I would never want to miss this event. Thanks to all those who will make the organisation of the tournament possible, see you at Plaza Mayor”.

CARNERO “We knew there would be numerous news in the world of padel for 2024, but we also knew that great padel would remain in Valladolid – the words of Mayor Jesus Julio Carnero –. The tournament will not only have the exceptional location of Plaza Mayor, but from 24 to 30 June the area that also includes Calle Santiago and Acera de Recoletos will be dedicated to padel. Both spatially and temporally, the tournament will be played under the best possible conditions”.
