Winning debut for Paraguay, successes also for Argentina, Brazil and Italy.

An exciting first day has come to a close at the FIP Juniors World Padel Championships, which is taking place in Asunción. Day 1 saw the overwhelming victory of the hosts, the reigning champions of Paraguay: in the men’s tournament, the team beat Uruguay 3-0, and in the women’s competition, the Albirroja closed the match against Japan 3-0. In group A of the men’s tournament, the same as Paraguay, Brazil also won 3-0 against Ecuador. In group B, Argentina dominated Egypt, again 3-0, while Sweden beat Chile 2-1. In group C, Spain made a smooth start with a 3-0 win over Mexico, and Portugal beat the United States 3-0. The results were identical in group D: in this case, the successes were for Italy and France, respectively against Belgium and the United Arab Emirates.

In the women’s tournament, the 3-0 victory of Argentina over Uruguay stands out in group A, the only one with three teams (Spain’s debut is scheduled for Day 2 against Uruguay). In group B, the girls from Sweden and Brazil also started their campaign with two more 3-0 wins, beating the United States and Chile respectively. In group C – the same as the Paraguayans – Portugal celebrated a 2-1 victory over Mexico. Finally, Italy won 3-0 against Ecuador, while France closed with a 2-1 win over Egypt.

The busy schedule of matches will continue with Day 2 on Tuesday. The highlight is scheduled to start from Thursday with the quarter-finals; Friday will be the time for the semifinals, while the finals will take place on Saturday. A week of intense emotions that will be accompanied by the support and cheering of the home crowd. After participating in the opening ceremony, even the President of the Republic Santiago Peña invited athletes and citizens to attend the event, declared a sporting event of national interest by the Senate of the Republic: “I invite you to come and support our selection,” said the head of state, through a video published by the Secretaría Nacional de Deportes.
