Day 1: Italy cheers with Orsi, Marchetti and Pappacena

In the day 1 of the FIP PLATINUM Sardegna, an international padel tournament promoted by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce, under the patronage of the Municipality of Cagliari, great victory for Carolina Orsi – who, paired with Spain’s Carla Mesa Salazar, beat Marta Borrero and Ksenia Sharifova with a double 6-3 – as well as Chiara Pappacena and Giorgia Marchetti, who beat Spain’s Marta Arellano Navarro and Brazi’’s Raquel Piltcher with the same score. “Winning playing a tournament at home is always nice – said the two Italians –. For the next match we would like a lot of people to cheer for us”.
Also because the opponent will be top level, the number 3 seed Carmen Goenaga Garcia and Lucia Martinez Gomez from Spain. Also doing well, in the men’s, were the Italian-Argentines Nicolas Suescun and Facundo Dominguez, who defeated (6-3 6-3) the Spaniards Pablo Lijo (who won the CUPRA FIP Finals in Cagliari in 2020) and Eduardo Alonso. The surprise of the day was the defeat of the eighth seed in the men’s draw: Juan Cruz Belluati and Javier Ruiz were beaten 6-4 7-6 by Brazilian Lucas Campagnolo and Spaniard Juanlu Esbri. Tomorrow, starting at 10.30 a.m., the first round closes with the remaining 12 matches.
