Argentina and Brazil share the titles

Argentina champion among men, Brazil gold medallist among women. One title each in the Panamerican Games held in Caracas (Venezuela) in front of a huge crowd. They were two spectacular finals and, in both cases, it took the decisive match to award the trophy, with the winning national teams celebrating their success on the sidelines for a long time.

 

Brazil triumphed in the women’s tournament, winning the first match with Alessandra De Barros and Cristina Cirne Lima getting the better of Silvana Campus and Irene Jimenez in three sets (4-6 6-4 6-4). Argentina drew thanks to Daiara Valenzuela and Maria Laura Ferreyra, who defeated Francielle Gaspar and Julia Cirne Lima (6-2 6-0). Also in two sets, Gabriela Mena Barreto and Fernanda Abarzua won 6-1 6-4 over Alma Cordoba and Paloma Albornoz.

 

Argentina made up for it in the men’s, thanks to the first point brought home by Ramiro Moyano and Lucho Capra who beat 6-2 6-4 André Freitas and Pedro Toccafondo. Brazil, with Stefano Palma Flores and Joao Pedro Flores, evened the score by overcoming Miguel Lamperti and Alex Chozas in three sets (6-7 6-2 7-6), but youngsters Juani De Pascual and Leo Augsburger took the decisive point over Matheus Simonato and Lucas Cunha, recovering from a 4-1 down in the third set and closing in three tiebreaks (6-7 7-6 7-6) in two hours and 45 minutes.
