Sweden, Portugal and the UAE will fly to Asuncion
September 25, 2023Sweden, Portugal and the United Arab Emirates are celebrating qualification for the FIP Juniors Padel World Championships. They will fly to Asuncion, Paraguay, which will host the final stage of the world youth championships from November 13th to 18th, with the hosts defending the title they won two years ago in Torreòn, Mexico. Asian qualifiers were played over the weekend in Dubai and European qualifiers in Rotterdam. In the Dubai round, the UAE got the better of Japan and Saudi Arabia, led by Rashid Almheiri and Rashid Walid (Under 14), Saif Talal Alhammadi and Qasem Alsharaf (Under 16), and Abdulla Al Abdulla and Ahmed Al Mheiri (Under 18): five matches won, against only one loss. In second place was Japan, with Saudi Arabia third.
Sweden and Portugal, on the other hand, earned qualification in the European round played in Rotterdam (Netherlands). Eight matches were won and only one lost by Sweden (featuring Eddi Svensson and Carl William Fredrik Waldenlöv in the Under-14 team, Alfons Dinho Lopez and Victor Forsberg in the Under-16 team, and Adam Alrik Axelsson and Willy Släryd in the Under-18 team), seven wins and two losses for Portugal (featuring Bruno Costa, Martim Gomes, Salvador Castro and Manuel Da Rocha, in the Under-14s, Fábio Araújo, Gonçalo Liberato, Salvador Simoes and Francisco Da Silva in the Under-16s, João Caiano, Diogo Veiga Pereira, Bernardo Tavares and Gustavo Nunes in the Under-18s), with Netherlands and Austria third and fourth respectively. UAE, Sweden and Portugal join Paraguay, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, France, Chile, the United States, Uruguay, Belgium, Egypt and Spain in the men’s team competition.
In the women’s team tournament, on the other hand, already qualified are Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, France, Paraguay, the United States, Spain, Portugal, Chile, Uruguay, Belgium, Ecuador, Sweden and Egypt. In addition to the team competition, Paraguay will also host an Open tournament reserved for pairs obviously composed of athletes from the same nation: in addition to the official Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 categories, there will also be a promotional tournament reserved for the Under 12s.
