Sanchez and Capra, upset! Galan and Lebron out: “The perfect game”
July 20, 2023Out in the quarter-finals in Rome, out even in the round of 16 at the P1 Premier in Madrid. Juan Lebron and Ale Galan are not in their best moment and were forced to leave the draw where they were playing as defending champions. Lebron was coming back on court to the Foro Italico after an elbow injury and had already shown in Italy that he was still not at 100 per cent. This impression was also confirmed in Madrid: after passing the 2nd round by dropping a set two days ago against Martinez/Ruiz, Lebron and Galan were defeated (6-3 6-4) by the Argentinian pair formed by Maxi Sanchez and Luciano Capra, the number 9 seed on the draw. Maxi and Lucho celebrated themselves at the end of the game, incredulous and happy: “We played the perfect game – they said – We were especially good in the key points of the match”.
For Sanchez and Capra, in the quarters, the duel against the protagonists of another surprise: Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz, who defeated Fernando Belasteguin and Mike Yanguas (6) in two sets (6-4 6-3). Out also Alex Ruiz and Juan Tello (5), beaten 7-6 7-5 by Nieto/Sanz. The other bigs did well: a set of suffering for Stupaczuk/Di Nenno (7-6 6-1 to Diestro/Leal), 6-2 6-3 for Coello/Tapia over Rico/Gutierrez, double 6-3 for Chingotto/Navarro over Arroyo/Rubio.
Quarter-finals on Friday: third match on the Centre Court between Stupa/Di Nenno and Gonzalez/Gutierrez, in the fifth Nieto/Sanz will face Coello/Tapia. In the last two matches of a very long Friday on Centre Court, Chingotto/Navarro against Moyano/Gil followed by Sanchez/Capra vs. Bergamini/Ruiz.
