Ok Triay/Ortega and Sanchez/Josemaria All the favourites into the semifinals
July 15, 2023Everything went according to plan. In the first women’s draw in the history of Premier Padel, the pairs qualified for the semifinals are the top four in the seeding. After the successes in the morning of Delfina Brea and Bea Gonzalez (3) and the Alayeto twins (seeded number 5, but who benefited from the withdrawal at the start of the tournament of the number 4 Icardo/Riera), in the evening there were the successes – one clear-cut, one more painful – of the first two pairs on the draw of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel.
On the Pietrangeli, Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega struggled in the first set before winning the match 6-4 6-1 against Jessica Castellò (Spain) and Sofia Araujo (Portugal); on the Centre Court, the march of the great favourites, Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, continued in a match that seemed to be easy but which became complicated. The first set was dominated against Veronica Virseda and Claudia Jensen, while the second was more balanced, with Sanchez and Josemaria losing 7-5, before dominating the third and closing 6-1 5-7 6-1.
Gemma Triay has a special feeling with the capital, having worn the Circolo Canottieri Aniene jersey. “We are very happy with our performance and to have reached the semifinals – said –. Obviously we would like to write our name first in the roll of honour, but before the final there is a semifinal to be played, among other things, against a pair that we already faced last week (in Valencia). We know what we have to do, but now we have to do it’.
