Coello/Tapia and Chingotto/Navarro, soft debut for the big boys
July 19, 2023There was great expectation in Madrid for the Premier P1 debut of the two finalists from the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel. And the pairs formed by Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia and Fede Chingotto and Paquito Navarro did not disappoint. Two dominating matches took the four finalists from the Foro Italico to the round of 16 in Madrid. Coello and Tapia gave up just one game to Sanz/Zapata (6-1 6-0); Chingotto and Navarro gave up two to Gil/Sager (6-2 6-0). Among the top seeds on the dras, Ruiz/Tello‘s success over Vilariño/Oria was more difficult (7-6 6-2), but Gonzalez/Gutierrez (7) also played a tiebreak after finishing 6-1 in the first set against Gonzalez/Luque.
With the draw lined up for the round of 16, tomorrow gets into full swing with all the big back on court. On Centre Court, in order, Stupaczuk/Di Nenno third match against Diestro/Leal, followed by Coello/Tapia against Rico/Gutierrez and, at the end of the day, Galan/Lebron against Capra/Sanchez, with the world number one players dropping a set in their opening match. On court 2, also in the afternoon, Yanguas/Belasteguin will face Bergamini/Ruiz; followed by Chingotto/Navarro against Arroyo/Rubio. In the round of 16 there was only one non-leading pair left, that of Pincho Fernandez and Pablo Cardona, who will face Moyano/Gil on court 3.
