Abbate and Brusa champions again
July 24, 2023From Agrigento to Biella, from the south to the north of Italy. A fabulous July for Flavio Abbate and Nicolas Brusa, who after the FIP PROMOTION Città dei Templi won the FIP RISE in Biella. The Sicilian, born in 2004 and the Italian-Argentinean, in the final, overturned the odds and beat (6-4 6-2) the number 1 seed on the draw, Italian champions Simone Cremona and Marco Cassetta.
They were not among the favourites, Abbate and Brusa, but they were able to end with a triumph a weekend that began outside the eight seed. “There are no words to describe all the emotions and the great moment we are going through, my friend – said Abbate –. However, I know that all the sacrifices we are making are being repaid, and for that we deserve everything we are achieving”.
Surprise victory also in the women’s draw, where the winners were France’s Carla Touly and Spain’s Alexandra Torralba, who defeated another surprise finalist pair, Spain’s Marta Porras Sanchez and Alba Izquierdo, in the final. Touly, a Frenchwoman who trains in Barcelona, celebrated her victory by posting on her social networks a video of one of the historic hits of Italian music: ‘Ti amo’ by Umberto Tozzi.
