EG2023 Drawing of the draw Spanish to beat in the three tournaments
June 20, 2023The draw has been made at the Hilton Hotel for the draw for the three padel tournaments – Men’s, Mixed, Women’s – scheduled to take place at the European Games from June 21. The kick-off is set tomorrow at 9 a.m. sharp on the courts of the Ksos Center in Krakow, as Spain is the country to beat in all three specialities.
Pablo Garcia and Alonso Rodriguez, the number one seed in the Men’s (32 pairs), will start against the Bulgarian pair Dimitrov-Mladenov. On their side of the draw there are Belgian number 7 seed Deloyer-Coene, Portuguese number 5 Fazendeiro-Oliveira, and French number 4 Maigret-Tison. Also at the top of the draw, the Italians Sinicropi-Graziotti will be up against Dutch pair Meier-Ritchers. Gala-Santigosa are the number 2 seed and will have to watch out – among others – for the French (3) Leygue-Scatena and the number 6 seed, the Portuguese brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus. Italians Cremona and Cassetta could be the underdog in this part of the draw. The Belgians Peeters-Azzola should also be watched.
For the medal hunt, besides Spain, France, Belgium, Holland and Portugal are definitely in the running, but watch out for surprises, bearing in mind the rapid growth of padel in several European countries.
Barrera-Caparros is the pair to beat and number one on the scoreboard among the 32 pairs in the women’s. Two more Spaniards, Canovas and Martinez for the number 2 seed, while the number 3 and 4 seed are Italian, respectively with Chiara Pappacena-Giulia Sussarello and Carolina Orsi-Giorgia Marchetti, two more pairs from the same country – Belgium – for the number 5 and 6 seeded, Wickaert-Mestach and Cuypers-Boeykens and for the number 7 and 8 seeded, the Portuguese Dos Santos-Fernandes and Vilela-Rodriguez.
Lastly, the Mixed, with 16 pairs on the scoreboard and again the Spaniards leading the way in terms of seeded players: Noa Canovas-Daniel Santigosa is the number one pair while at the bottom of the board we find Maria A. Martinez-David Gala (2). Trying to beat the Spaniards there are two Portuguese pairs: Vilela- M.Deus and Rodrigues-N.Deus.
