Double Spanish success

Predictions respected in the FIP RISE in Burriana. In both the men’s and women’s draw, the best-placed pairs in the seeding won the tournament. Among the men, after the withdrawal of Diego Gil and Miguel Angel Solbes and Adria Mercadal and Ruben Rivera, Mario Ortega and Carlos Martì, initially the number 3 seed, won the title.

The two Spaniards defeated Cayetano Rocafort and Simon Vasquez in a very balanced final, that ended 7-6 3-6 6-3. “We played at our level and, because of that, we brought the tournament home – said the Valencian Ortega –. We had a lot of fun on the court: it’s a pleasure to play close to home and receive the support of the people”.

The women’s final, on the other hand, was dominated by 20-year-old Marina Martinez Lobo and 34-year-old Teresa Navarro Lopez, who left only five games (6-2 6-3) to Martina and Camilla Fassio. The two Spaniards had also made a great performance (6-2 6-1) in the semi-final against compatriot Carla Castillo and Swedish Linnea Bjork.
