Tison made history in Dubai: With Mena is the first Frenchman to triumph in a FIP Gold

Benjamin Tison has written a page in French padel history. Paired with Spaniard Victor Mena, Tison is the first transalpine to win a FIP Gold tournament: it happened in Dubai, where the two defeated Spaniards Adria Mercadal and Ruben Rivera 4-6 6-3 6-2.

A final that lasted nearly two hours, with Tison and Mena that came back after losing the first set. Last year, another Frenchman – Jérémy Scatena – reached the final of the FIP Gold in Alkmaar, Netherlands, paired just with Mercadal, but failed to lift the trophy.

Instead, Tison, who turned 34 in February, made history. The other star of the Dubai success, Victor Mena, on the other hand, divides his time between padel and his job as a telecommunications engineer.

Tison and Mena were the second seed on the seeding; Mercadal and Rivera, on the other hand, defeated Marcos and Sanchez, the number one seeds, in two sets in Saturday’s semifinals. Special thanks to the tournament organisation, as it was really spectacular from every point of view!
